September 2009
September wildlife sightings from Nick Davies and other news from Hebridean Whale Cruises.
Bad weather – no news
27 September 2009
The weather has been bad since the middle of the month. We have only managed a few cruises and there's not been much to report.
The whales come closer to home
4 September 2009
The whales have been costing us a fortune!
Over the last few weeks the only whales we have been able to find have been off the very northern tip of Skye – over 25 miles each way! This meant a two-and-a-half hour cruise at least, which often turned into over three when we encountered dolphins on the way across.
I'm happy to say the whales have now returned to more local waters, about eight miles out from Gairloch.
It is also peak Basking Shark period at the moment with some huge animals patrolling areas around Melvaig and Rubha Reidh lighthouse.
